Long Term Sponsorship Program

One of EdPowerment’s core programs is to "sponsor" young people who otherwise would not be able to pursue formal education. For each individual that we support, we provide all school tuition, fees and other necessities for as long as he or she is able to progress in his or her course of studies. We thereby allow capable and determined young people to pursue the highest educational degrees possible for their career goals. In this way, today's disenfranchised youth will become tomorrow's community leaders.

EdPowerment’s Long-Term Sponsorship Program totals 30 young people as of September 2012, all with the potential of Veronica and Thomas.  Our program is not about how many students we can place in secondary school; it is about guiding each participant from classroom to employment. To accomplish this goal,

  • We select and vet candidates based on their desire to pursue formal learning, their academic potential, and their need.  We then take a holistic approach to nurturing our students, providing emotional and other assistance when necessary.
  • We place each student in the best environment for him or her, taking into account both intellectual and social factors.  Our Country Director follows each student’s progress through ongoing contact with school administrators.  We fund extra tutoring when required and even provide targeted funding for some of the secondary schools that our students attend in order that the schools can better serve their populations.
  • We commit to support each student AS FAR AS HE OR SHE CAN GO IN THE TANZANIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.  This can mean secondary school (O levels) Form 5 & 6 (A levels), vocational, certificate, diploma, and even bachelor degree programs.

EdPowerment’s Long-Term Sponsorship Program transforms the life of each of its students – not for a few years, but for a lifetime.  By doing so, we lift the lives of their families and communities as well.
