Hongera to Elizabeth, our latest Form 6 graduate from one of Tanzania’s leading high schools!
This mature, successful and increasingly confident young woman can now look forward to attending college – because of one person – her bibi (grandmother).
This is a great story. Four years ago, Elizabeth could no longer attend Secondary School because of series of devastating events. Her grandmother, with whom she had come to live, would not allow Elizabeth to just remain at home… and so she brought her to the local Kilimahewa Educational Centre. She knew Elizabeth was too smart to languish on her plot. Here is where Elizabeth’s luck began to change. A volunteer at Kilimahewa on “gap†year singled out Elizabeth as a talented student to EdPowerment’s staff. The teachers at Kilimahewa agreed and our Country Director, Grace Lyimo, went into action to get Elizabeth accepted into Form 3 of Mrike Secondary School. Two years later, Elizabeth scored well enough on the Form 4 National Exam to gain admission to Bendel High School and this past weekend, a confident and accomplished Elizabeth graduated.
– ALL because her Bibi would not allow her to fail. We celebrate her and all the grandmothers of the world whose love enables their grandchildren to succeed in life.
