Wings For Confident Women (WCW)
In 2022 EdPowerment participated in an International Women’s Day project to provide sanitary napkins to area schools.
Following this event, teachers at the minimally resourced Dahani Secondary School in Siha appealed to EdPowerment to keep supporting female students during their menstrual cycle. However, the purchase and distribution of pads was neither financially sustainable nor environmentally friendly.
Therefore, EdPowerment launched an ambitious program to make reusable sanitary pads, first with the female students at Dahani.
In this District, many female students lack family resources or willingness to properly take care of themselves during monthly cycles – instead, they remain at home. The result? Girls miss important learning opportunities, earn lower National Exam scores and fail to advance both in school and society. Reusable pads change this reality.
Today, almost 3 years later, a comprehensive program of reusable pad production and female health education operates out of the EdPowerment Business Incubation Center.
We have sourced multiple materials and examined multiple other reusable products in order to produce a superior pad that will last for at least a year, preventing embarrassing accidents and thereby instilling greater confidence in its user.
In 2025 we distributed over 5,000 pads annually to 5 area schools along with vital reproductive and female health instruction.
Creating a confidential and open environment, we are teaching local girls and young women how to understand and be proud of their bodies. Not available elsewhere, this information and our encouragement is inspiring hundreds of otherwise ignorant and often neglected girls to reach for and expect better lives and outcomes from their efforts at school.
